Our school was built in the mid Victorian period.
It initially housed a Junior and an Infant classroom and there was a
school house attached to the school building. There is a large
sized playground and grassed area to the rear of the school. Over the years there have been varying amounts of pupils attending the school, these figures increased as the vilage was extended with new homes. As a result in the increasing amount of children attending the school changes had to be made inside the school. The old school house was converted into an administration and storage area and one smaller room was turned into an additional classrom. other changes in school have seen the addition of a mezzanine level in the main and largest room in the shcool that is used as a computer suite for younger pupils. The school had not really changed structuraly since being built, until work began in 2007 for a dedicated Nursery classroom at the rear of the school. This has allowed the school to catre for the younger pupils within the immediate and surrounding communities, as without this additional classroom we were unable to accept pupils of pre-school age. We also have a purpose built library area in the children’s entrance and operate a lending library three days a week. All our 3 classrooms have fully featured interactive whiteboards as does the main large room which is now being used as an additional classroom as it too includes an area for study along with a whiteboard. It is used for split activities but primarily functions as the school hall which we use for our weekly collective worship as well as school plays. At the front of the school is a pleasant garden with benches for children to enjoy quiet times during play times. We have also developed the rear of the school and installed a play fort for more adventurous play and also a small garden area where we plant and grow things during the school year. We hav also created an outside classroom area and sensory garden for children to enjoy lessons, such as RE and PHSCE in a different, more contemplative environment. The centre piece is a maze seating area. |
